Controversial statements about overweight
In an interview on “Aik Din Geo Kay Sath,” a Geo News television series, Hira Mani talked about her weight loss story and said that her husband helped her lose weight. She said that her husband’s taunts proved to motivate her, and she lost 10 kg of her weight in 3 months. She said that it’s okay to have strict husbands who constantly make fun of their wives for being overweight, and that’s how a woman can stay in shape. But many people were offended by his statement and criticized him. His statement was considered insensitive which encouraged body shaming.
Condemned for making irresponsible comments on the Dua Zehra case
In April 2022, Hira Mani was heavily criticized for her comments on the Dua Zehra case. Dua Zehra is a young girl, 17-18 years old (as of April 2022), and her parents filed her kidnapping case in April 2022, but it was later found that Dua was not kidnapped, instead she ran away from Karachi to Punjab and married Zaheer. Since Dua was still a minor, it was a case of child marriage, and she was sent to the Child Protection Center. The next day, Hira Mani stated on social media that she doesn’t want Dua Zehra and Zaheer to break up for which netizens mocked her on social media. Even Baarwan Khiladi actor Khaqan Shahnawaz reacted to this and said,
Dua Zehra’s case has progressed to the point where it was proved in a court of law using DNA evidence. This is not a joke. He is a kidnapped child. Someone explain this to Hira Mani,”. He added, that people like him “need to either go back to school or get psychological help because every time they open their mouths, it hurts humanity in one way or another!”
