Hoda Kotb is not afraid of aging!
The “Today” show co-counselor recently reminisced about celebrating his 59th birthday with his family, noting that he was eagerly anticipating the journey into his 60s. Kotb candidly discussed the memorable celebration, sharing that amid the happy moments and cherished family time, he gained meaningful insight into growing older.
Hoda Kotb Feels ‘Amazing’ Into Her 50s
During Tuesday’s edition of the “Today” Show, Kotb opened up about her 59th birthday experience with her co-host, Jenna Bush Hager. Starting the conversation, he revealed:
“I had a great birthday celebration. I had my mother, my sister, my brother, my niece, my sister-in-law – everyone came. We had a cake and a party, and we celebrated, and it was great.”
Claiming that she came to a beautiful realization when she turned a year older, she explained that she was really happy to accept that age. Going further, the broadcast reporter added:
“If you’re worried about aging, and I know that aging is a thing, 59 is amazing. It was an amazing year. And when I wake up and I think about it, I’m like, I close my eyes, and imagine and I imagine what I have around me, and I think to myself, ‘I’m 59 years old. I have two amazing children. I have my mother and my sister, and my brother and my sister-in-law and my niece.”
This change in perspective has allowed Kotb to reassess his perception of aging and his approach to the future. He emphatically told Hager that his new focus on the present has allowed him to fully experience life in the moment.
“Look, life is fleeting. Turn. Watch what happens. See the news. You’re here, and then you’re not. Life is like that, so you have to be in it. You can’t regret it,” said the former “Dateline NBC” correspondent.
Besides spending time to smell the flowers, the author of “I Needed This Today” did not give up on finding his true love. As The Blast reported last November, he had told Hager that he knew “for sure – and it’s the strangest feeling to know” but “sometimes feel him, but I don’t see what he looks like, but I think it will happen.” Before he made the bold confession, Kotb had said:
“For everyone who is at a phase in their life where they may or may not be with a partner. My sister once said to me, ‘Are you afraid of being alone?’ And I know this is very strange, but I said to him, ‘I will not be alone.’ Like, I actually know, as sure as I’m sitting next to you at this table. I have two beautiful daughters that I love, obviously.”

While she patiently waits for the man who will take her away, the Daytime Emmy Awards winner is focused on enjoying time with her children, Haley Joy and Hope Catherine. According to The Blast, she shared the happy news when she appeared on the red carpet of The Hollywood Reporter’s Most Powerful People of the Year at New York Media alongside Hager and Savannah Guthrie.
After the three friends talked about the coming months, which Hager described as “summer wild girls, and we’re leading the charge!” An excited Kotb admitted to being “on tiptoe” about his return to the dating world.
He explained, “I enjoy my children and my life. I appreciate this time.” Although her friends supported her in the decision, Guthrie declared that anyone who wanted to date Kotb would have to go through her and Hager.
That statement prompted Hager to say, “Yes, and good luck. He has two very protective younger sisters. Good luck.” The telly’s most recent relationship was with New York financier Joel Schiffman, whom she began dating in 2013.
Although the former couple later got engaged in 2019, they never made it to the altar as they called off the engagement after eight years together. Announcing their split on “Today,” Kotb told viewers:
“Joel and I have had many prayerful and meaningful conversations over the holidays, and we decided that we are better as friends and parents than we are as an engaged couple.”
