Holocaust survivor, 85, reunited with family after being freed by Hamas

A Holocaust survivor who was swept away on a golf cart by Hamas terrorists in an October 7 attack was pictured beaming with his family hours after his release.

Yaffa Adar, one of the 24 prisoners freed by Hamas, was seen smiling in hospital in a photo shared on Facebook by many of his adoring relatives.

“I don’t have enough words to describe this feeling. You came back to us after 49 days of endless shock, panic, worry, tears and longing. Finally [we] can start breathing,” Adar’s daughter, Vered Adar, wrote in a post with an image of the couple hugging.

The 85-year-old mother of three, grandmother of seven and grandmother of eight was abducted from Kibbutz Nahal Oz last month and was among the first hostages released on Friday as part of a temporary ceasefire.

His eldest grandson, Tamir Adar, 38, was also taken hostage, and remains in Hamas custody, the family said on social media.

“The family gathered to see if it really happened, and when I saw him on TV with his own legs, I was so happy. It is as if we have won Jerusalem back,” Adar’s daughter-in-law Yael Adar told i24 News when the family learned of the octogenarian’s release.

“Since the day he was kidnapped, he doesn’t know much. He doesn’t know anything about a neighbor who was kidnapped or killed, he doesn’t know his grandson is still a hostage,” explained Yael.

“I feel that the Israelis are with us, and I need them to stay with us, but I want us not to forget all those who have not returned and we will not be silent until the last hostages come home. “The Hamas attack on Nir Oz killed more than 100 people, the Times of Israel reported.
