Homeless man dies after being hit by 3 cars in LA – with none stopping to help

A homeless man dressed in a blanket was fatally struck by three separate drivers on a Los Angeles street, none of whom stopped to help as he lay dead in the middle of the road.

The first collision occurred shortly before midnight Friday, when a light-colored pickup truck driving the wrong way struck the victim as he was crossing San Fernando Street in the Pacoima neighborhood, police said.

A still image from surveillance video from nearby Amgad Kahlil’s business shows the man struck as the vehicle that hit him drives away.

“No one deserves this, no one,” Khalil told NBC Los Angeles. “I wouldn’t wish that on my enemy.”

The victim, believed to be a man in his 20s or early 30s, survived the initial impact and appeared to be struggling to get back up.

Another vehicle traveling on the opposite side of the road slowed down briefly next to the injured man, but did not stop.

He was then hit by someone driving a light colored SUV and thrown several feet.

Finally, a dark-colored SUV hit the man and dragged him a short distance before leaving the scene, according to Khalil.

Khalil did not witness the three consecutive accidents in real time but rushed to the man’s aid as soon as he realized what had happened.

“I walked over to him, put a light on him – he wasn’t breathing,” the business owner said.

The man later died from his injuries.

He had not been identified as of Wednesday.

Khalil said that he recognized the victim as a homeless man who he often saw walking around wrapped in a blanket.

He was shocked by the callousness of the three drivers who did not stop after hitting the innocent pedestrian.

“What would they think if it was one of their family members?” Khalil wondered. “I don’t know what kind of soul these people have, but I don’t think they do.”

Police are still looking for the trio of drivers involved in the fatal hit-and-run accident.
