House Republican likens ‘very few innocent’ Palestinians to ‘innocent Nazi civilians’ during World War II

Rep. Brian Mast (R-Fla.) declared Wednesday that there are “very few innocent Palestinian civilians” living in Gaza and compared the plight of noncombatants to “innocent Nazi civilians” during World War II.

“I would encourage the other party not to so easily throw around the idea of ’innocent Palestinian civilians’ as is often said,” the Florida Republican said on the House floor.

“I don’t think we would have thrown around the term ‘innocent Nazi civilians’ during World War II.”

Mast, a staunch supporter of Israel who has volunteered with the Israel Defense Forces in the past, criticized “antisemitic teachings” in Palestinian schools.

He claims the education system indoctrinates ordinary children, blurring the distinction between innocent civilians and terrorists.

“The list goes on and on from the examples we can give of what one can call a Gazan, or a person of rank in the West Bank, or just a Palestinian – which they may not say, lies under the name of Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad – but according to any classical definition at all would be considered a terrorist, someone who in the last few weeks has committed kidnappings, murders, atrocities almost unspeakable,” he said. “I would ask that it be seen through that lens.”

“There is no such distance to say there are very few innocent Palestinian civilians,” Mast said. “I have never seen a video of innocent Palestinian civilians who are out there trying to protect Israel, who are out there trying to stop the attacks.”

Mast has sponsored a bill in the House – the Anti-Hamas International Financing Act – that would force President Biden to issue a case-by-case waiver to approve the transfer of humanitarian aid to Gaza to ensure aid does not end up in the hands of the terror group.

“Any aid should be slowed down — any aid,” Mast said during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on the bill last month. “Because I will challenge anyone here to show me, which Palestinian is Hamas, and which is an innocent civilian? Which child poked the other Israeli child? And which one is really innocent?”
