House where 4 University of Idaho students were slaughtered set to be demolished

The house where four University of Idaho students were murdered in their beds in November 2022 will finally be demolished.

Demolition of the three-story home on Moscow’s King Road will begin Dec. 28 — more than 13 months after Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves were found stabbed to death inside.

“It’s a grim reminder of the heinous acts that took place there,” University of Idaho President Scott Green said in a school-wide memo.

“While we appreciate the emotional connection victims’ family members may have with this home, it is time to move on and allow our community’s collective healing to continue.”

The house has been scheduled for demolition since early 2023 after the owner of the house donated it to the university.

Officials refused to set a date for the culling as accused quadruple murderer Bryan Kohberger heads to trial over the murders, but ultimately decided to spread it over the winter break “to minimize further impact on students living in the area” – although a court date for Kohberger has yet to be set. .

The former criminology student was arrested weeks after the November 13, 2022 murder after he allegedly left DNA on a knife sheath found by police at the scene.

Kernodle, Mogen and Goncalves all lived in the house with two other roommates, both of whom were on the first floor at the time of the stabbing but survived.

Kohberger’s defense team was given one last chance to comb the property for evidence, including photos, measurements and drone footage, a week before demolition was set to begin.

Bulldozers also continued despite the victim’s family pleading to keep the rental house until after Kohberger’s trial.

“The house itself has tremendous evidentiary value and is the largest, and one of the most important, pieces of evidence in the case,” Shanon Gray, an attorney for the Goncalves family, said in July.

Gray told The Post that the family will release a statement on the official demolition date on Friday.
