What are unsent messages in Messenger?
Unsend Message means to delete a message that you have already sent. Sometimes there is an error while sending messages, or you send something to your friend/anyone, and you regret it after sending it.
For such cases, all social media apps provide some sort of feature to delete the message.
This function of deleting the sent message is called unsend in the messaging app. For example, delete the message on WhatsApp, similarly, unsend the message on messenger.
Can you see an unsent message in Messenger?
Although you receive a notification when someone unsends a message you’ve sent, there’s no direct way to view the contents of unsent messages.
When someone unsends the message you’ve sent, you’re notified. However, once you or the other person cancels sending the message, neither you nor the other person will be able to see it.
Steps to view unsent messages in Messenger
It is not possible to see unsent messages in Android messenger. Once it’s deleted, it’s gone forever, you can’t get it back from the messenger. However, some third-party apps can help you recover old messages and unsent messages on Messenger, just like you can recover permanently deleted messages on Facebook.
These apps work by saving your notifications. When you receive a message, you receive a notification and these apps save these notifications before they are deleted or not delivered.
- Download and install the Notisave app from the Google Play Store.
- Launch the app and you will be asked to allow notification access to the app. Allow it.
- Find and access “enable Notification” to the notisave app.
- Give access to photos, files and media on your device.
- All apps will be loaded in your notisave app.
- Enable “Autostart”.
- Now all the notifications on your device will be saved and you will be able to access them even if people cancel or delete them.
Now, let’s see how you can view unsent messages through the Messenger app.
You need to download the “Notisave” app on Google Play to view unsent messages on Messenger. It is a notification and status saver app that automatically saves messages in Messenger from the notification bar by auto saving notifications. With the help of the app, you can search all the apps at once.
Messenger and other messaging apps support Notisave to automatically save new messages, images, and statuses. To use Notisave, these are the steps:
- Open Google Play and download Notisave.
- Now grant access to notifications by turning on “Notisave”.
- After that, allow Notisave to access your media and files.
- Go to settings”.
- Click “Save Notifications”.
- Turn on “Messenger”.
Once the Messenger app is activated, your Messenger message notifications will automatically start saving to Notisave. So if someone unsends a message in the Messenger app now, you can open the Notisave app and see the user’s unsent message.
This can also be tested via another phone by sending a message to yourself and then canceling. However, you need to enable Messenger notifications for this to work, otherwise your Messenger notifications won’t save to Notisave.
Note: Notisave is only available on Google Play for Android devices and not on the App Store for iPhone and other iOS devices.
If you want to see unsent messages in Messenger without an app, you need to turn on “Notifications history” in your settings. By doing this, messages will be saved before not being sent, which you get in Messenger. However, you should keep in mind that this method is only for some Android users as the devices differ in functionality and options from one to another. So now, this is how you can turn on “Notification History”:

After following these steps, you will be able to view unsent messages in Messenger by navigating to your Messenger notification history. If you have already turned on “Notification history”, select Messenger and then you can see the notification history. It will include your unsent and recent messages in Messenger.
However, simply turning on “Notification history” will not help you see past unsent messages in Messenger. And you will only be able to see the unsent messages in the future. The reason behind this is that the previous unsent messages on Messenger are not saved as a notification.
Just like on Android devices, this step only works for Android and not iOS devices as they do not have the “Notification History” feature.
Since not all Android devices have the “Notification History” feature, in case you don’t either, you can download the “Notisave” app.

How to cancel sending messages in Messenger?
You have sent a message to someone and now you regret sending it. Don’t worry, you can cancel the shipment. Here, we will explain how to cancel sending the message on Messenger.
- Open the chat in which you want to cancel sending the message.
- Click for a little longer (long press) on the message you want to cancel.
- Click on the “Delete” option.
- Select “Unsend”
- Your message will not be sent.
Note: You can unsend the message within 10 minutes of sending it. If you try to cancel sending after 10 minutes, you won’t be able to.
