Hugh Jackman Refutes Steroid Allegations In Fitness Routine For Wolverine Movies

Actor Hugh Jackman is an actor who has the power to transform his body for various roles, especially for physically demanding roles like his Wolverine character. Jackman starred as Wolverine for many years and in several films where he repeatedly pushed himself and his body to gain and lose large amounts of muscle.

However, he recently denied rumors that he was using steroids to help his muscle-gaining process, saying he didn’t like his job “that much.” Jackman says he uses the old-fashioned way, which involves large amounts of protein, mainly chicken. He also talked about his six-month fitness plan to prepare his body to play Wolverine again in “Deadpool 3.”

During a recent appearance on HBO Who’s Talking with Chris Wallace, Wallace asked Jackman about rumors that he dabbled in steroids. He said, “For years, people wondered, did he juice? Did he take steroids?” Fan speculation stems from Jackman being repeatedly tipped to play Wolverine in several ‘X-men’ movies.

In response, Jackman stated, “No, I love my job. And I love Wolverine. I have to be careful what I say here, but I’ve been told anecdotally about the side effects. And I’m like, ‘I don’t loved it so much.’ So, no, I just do it the old school way.” By old school, the 54-year-old actor means he eats a lot of protein, especially chicken.

Jackman temporarily retired from his role as “Wolverine” after the character’s death in “Logan” and kept busy on Broadway. The actor is currently featured in “The Music Man,” where his character’s body is not as physically demanding as Marvel’s superheroes.

Wallace also asked Jackman how he plans to make the physical transition from his broadway character to playing Wolverine again in “Deadpool 3,” alongside Ryan Reynolds. The “Greatest Showman” actor later revealed that he had created a six-month plan to get his body back into Wolverine.

Jackman said per NYP, “I’ve learned you can’t rush. I have learned that it takes time. So, we have six months from the date I finish [‘The Music Man’] until when I start filming. And I don’t do other work. I will be with my family and train. That will be my job for six months. And I’m really fit now.”

The “Prisoner” actor revealed that when he first took on the role of Wolverine, he knew nothing about them and instead focused his research on wolves. He said, “I never read the comic book. In Australia, we don’t have wolves. I didn’t know it was a real animal. I have never heard of wolverine. I thought it was a made-up animal.”

Jackman said he watched several documentaries about wolves because he “obviously” thought he was playing a wolf. He explained that it wasn’t until he went on set showing the wolf moves that he learned that a director corrected him and explained that he was a wolf, which was different.

Hugh Jackman Is Starring in ‘The Music Man’

In “The Music Man,” Jackman plays Professor Harold Hill, and Sutton Foster stars as Hill’s reluctant love interest Marian Paroo. The show suffered several delays due to COVID-19 and eventually opened in 2022. It later extended its Broadway run until early 2023 due to high demand for additional performances.

The show’s “positive final performance” will be on Jan. 15, 2023, instead of a pre-New Year’s Day end date. Producer Kate Horton said in a statement, “The audience’s hunger for our show continues unabated. We thank Hugh and Sutton [Foster] and our entire glorious company for agreeing to add these 16 additional performances.”
