A burly Tennessee mayor was arrested for allegedly body slamming his girlfriend’s son Sunday after the two got into a backyard argument, authorities said.
Burns City Mayor Landon Mathis reportedly promised to pay the boy $40 to cut the weeds, but then took issue when the boy asked him for payment.
Mathis reneged on the deal and allegedly assaulted the youth, identified only as KP, according to a Dickson County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit obtained by WSMV.
The victim claimed to authorities she was talking to her mother inside the home about the payment when Mathis approached her and grabbed her by the collar of her shirt before pushing her onto the couch, police documents state.
The boy claimed Mathis, 45, continued to push him, hard enough to leave a mark on the right side of his neck, authorities said.
“KP stated that his mother told them to break it and KP went to his room,” the arrest affidavit said.

As he began to walk away from the confrontation, the child said Mathis “stepped on his leg” so the victim pushed him away, according to documents.
That’s when Mathis allegedly grabbed the young man and body slammed him, “getting him in some type of neck hold and began twisting and pushing his nose causing pain,” the affidavit alleges.
The age of the girlfriend’s son was not disclosed.
Mathis was charged with domestic assault, WSMV reported.
More than seven years ago Mathis was hailed as a hero when he saved the previous mayor’s life when he suffered a massive heart attack on Aug. 11, 2016, the Tennessean has since reported.
Mathis reportedly gave mouth-to-mouth CPR to his former political rival after Jeff Bishop collapsed while the two worked on the floor together after the former mayor began working for Mathis’ business.
Mathis has been mayor of Burns — a town of more than 1,500 people — since 2012.
