Hunter Biden deposition set for Feb. 28 in impeachment probe

Sit down, Hunter. Let’s talk.

First son Hunter Biden on Thursday agreed to appear for a deposition on Capitol Hill before the House committee leading the impeachment inquiry into President Biden over alleged corruption.

Hunter, 53, agreed to sit for an interview on February 28 – likely to take further steps to hold Congress in contempt for violating his scheduled December 13 deposition.

“We look forward to Hunter Biden’s testimony,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) said in a joint statement.

“His decision will be made after several interviews with Biden’s family members and associates,” the chairman said — though it’s unclear at this time whether other members of the president’s family have testified or agreed to do so.

House Republicans are investigating the elder Biden’s ties to foreign transactions that benefited his relatives during and shortly after his vice presidency, as well as alleged Justice Department cover-ups to protect Joe and Hunter Biden from scrutiny.

Joe Biden, 81, insisted that he “never” discussed business with Hunter or with first brother James Biden – insisting last month that he also “did not” interact with their partners, despite evidence that he met with Chinese, Kazakh, Mexico, Allies Russia and Ukraine.

Republicans say that Hunter and his uncle James corruptly sold access to their powerful relatives, creating a conflict of interest in foreign affairs, and that the president has misled the public about his role.

Hunter Biden’s deposition date has been confirmed after another series of high-profile interviews.

House investigators on Thursday took a deposition from Hollywood attorney Kevin Morris, who loaned or gave Hunter Biden $7 million to cover outstanding tax bills and living expenses after meeting him at a late 2019 fundraiser for Joe Biden.

Hunter’s Manhattan art dealer Georges Bergès, who brokered $1.5 million in the first child art sale since his father entered the White House in 2021 — largely to Morris — testified last week.

Rob Walker, a close associate of the Biden family who funneled millions of dollars from Chinese and Romanian business ties, is set to testify next week — followed the week of Jan. 29 by Eric Schwerin, who worked closely with Hunter and often interacted with then-VP Biden.

It’s possible Hunter Biden will exercise his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination during his deposition — especially since he faces federal tax charges in Los Angeles and gun charges in Delaware.

The first son left a probation-only plea deal in July following a lawsuit seeking assurances that he has full immunity for past conduct, including possible violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, that could implicate his father.

Hunter Biden and House Republicans have expressed interest in public hearings after closed depositions are complete.

This is a developing story. Please check back for more updates.
