At the age of 11, Iam Tongi started learning to play the ukulele. He got instruction from his fifth grade teacher. He eventually got tired of playing the instrument. Finally, in late 2020, he launched his music career by releasing his debut single Dreams. He went quiet after releasing that single and didn’t release any new music for over two years. After her win on American Idol, she made a comeback and released a single titled Efiafi with Manatau Tuifua in March 2023. Her uncle is the person she collaborated with on this single. He is always with Tongi, encouraging him to participate in various auditions.

In her audition for American Idol in New Orleans, she sang James Blunt’s Monster. Three judges gave him the green single, and he advanced to the Hollywood Round.
