Ice Cube Wants His Hand On ‘Friday’

The rapper appeared on a recent episode of the “Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson” podcast where he talked about the movie, its popularity and Warner Bros.’ hold on the franchise coming to an end soon.
“I do not know. Warner Brothers is weird now. I don’t know what they’re doing, they don’t know what they’re doing,” admitted the rapper, whose real name is O’Shea Jackson.
“We want to get it back. I think it will be close to the time when we can get it back. So we’re either waiting for that time, or we’re going to keep convincing them that they have to let us control the movie,” said Cube, who brought him back to his NWA days with his stern expression.
Cube Ice Starts a Franchise

The rapper-turned-filmmaker made it clear, “It’s my movie, but they have distribution control.” The contract is said to be up soon, and the rapper hopes to move forward at some point with the story of Craig and his neighborhood, wherever it ends up in the fourth installment.
Cube seems pretty bitter about the whole situation, but can you blame him? His franchise is in contract hell. But don’t get it twisted, he has no intention of going above and beyond to get her back. “I’m not pretending for that. F**k no,” he insisted.
Ice Cubes Prefer to Start

The cube is described. “They have to give it to me, and they’re going to make money…I’m not [going] to pay for my own stuff, that’s stupid.” He pointed out that if the company had just handed over the film, they would have already made money.
“They need to do the right thing, tell us, let us turn it into more money, and make the fans happy, and people will have fun with the series. We can do a lot with it.”
Cube has been working behind the scenes for years to make this happen. He was desperate to get in there and tell more stories about Craig and his friends and family but Warner Bros continued to be vague.
Ice Cube Has Two Scripts
Cube appeared on the “Drink Champs” podcast where he first talked about his problems with Warner Bros.
“I tried to get it out of Warner Brothers, they don’t believe in culture men… I have two scripts. I wrote one; it’s s**t. They were like, ‘Yo, we don’t want Craig and Day-Day to go to jail, because Craig and Day-Day went to jail for selling weed before it was legal!”
The rapper went on to say that Warner Bros. was playing games with him and his script.
“Then after they turned it down, they had all these damn movies about incarceration: Orange Is The New Black … Get Hard. Then I wrote another script, and the script was really about … the young kids in the hood have beef with the OG in the hood, and Craig has to go back and squash because Smokey’s son is the new Deebo and he’s wylin! They trip over the guy, they hang around, and then John Witherspoon walks by. Then Deebo passed … they just messed it up.”
Warner Bros. Couldn’t Find The Right Time

The actor claims that Warner Bros. has struggled to find a suitable venue for the hit comedy. “They keep giving you note after note after note, never giving you the green light.” He described the film as being in “development hell”.
