Idris Elba Finally Snuffs Out Hope Of James Bond Casting Rumors

Idris Elba will not take over James Bond projects again!

Ever since Daniel Craig officially left the beloved franchise after the 2021 release of “No Time to Die,” fans have been speculating that Elba would be the next actor to take over the role. However, the 50-year-old confirmed that he is not in the running to become the new Bond, although he loves the action thriller project.

Idris Elba Confirms He Is Not Close To Becoming The Next James Bond

Since its inception in 1962, the role of James Bond has been handled by talented actors, including Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Sir Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and, most recently, Craig. With Craig’s exit, fans went into celebration mode as they expected the franchise to get its first Black lead in the form of Elba.

Unfortunately, that dream may never come true, as Primetime Emmy Award nominees addressed speculation over the weekend. During the conversation with CaretakerThe actor claimed:

“I love the Bond franchise; I am very close to the producers. We all laughed about the rumor because it was the same thing.”

He continued that while he can’t speak for the publisher, from his perspective, “there was never any truth to any of that. It’s a compliment and an honor — but it’s not the truth.”[sic]

Elba’s name first appeared in the rotation when Amy Pascal — a Sony Pictures executive — detailed in a leaked 2014 email that she felt that “Idris should be the next Bond.”

Fans got even more excited after 007 executive producer Barbara Broccoli said that “The Wire” actor had “been part of the conversation” from the beginning during a podcast appearance last year. Craig’s presence was the only thing he considered a hindrance to Elba taking the helm then. In his words:

“I think we’ve decided that until No Time to Die has run and Daniel has been able, well, we’ve all been able to, reap the benefits of Daniel’s great tenure, we’re not going to think about or talk about other people, actors to play the role or storyline or whatever. We just want to live in the moment, the present.”

Despite the challenges of Bond, Elba continues to flex his muscles in other films, with his latest project, “Luther: The Fallen Sun,” premiering on Netflix and in select theaters last month.

The crime thriller is a film sequel to the 2010–19 British television series of the same name and stars actor Elba in the title role. The father of two also stars alongside Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Wunmi Mosaku.

Last month, The Blast reported that Elba came under fire after expressing his reservations about being called a “black actor.” The 2013 Sexiest Man Alive for Essence stated during an interview that he has stopped describing himself with that term because it “puts me in a box.”

The “What’s Not to Like” rapper points out that people’s over-racial bigotry prevents real growth and aspirations among different races. In the words of the “Girl With The Bat” hitmaker:

“We need to grow. We have to. Our skin is nothing more than that: It’s just skin. If we spent half the time not talking about the differences but the similarities between us, the whole planet would experience a change in the way we deal with each other.

The actress further elaborated that people are always curious about her experiences with racism, which she confirmed she has been through. However, he doesn’t “go up to my black friends in conversation and ask them to tell me about racism” every time he’s racially profiled.

“I am no longer black because I am in a white area, or blacker because I am in a black area. I’m black. And that skin stays with me no matter where I go, every day, through a black area with white people in it or a white area with black people in it. I’m just as black,” Elba added.

The voice of “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” has since called for a hostile public reaction to his blunt admission of being “stupid”.
