At Star Wars Celebration were cast members Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who portrayed Helena Shaw in the film, Mads Mikkelsen, director/co-writer James Mangold, and producer Kathleen Kennedy. Along with the trailer, they delivered a video message from star Harrison Ford, which revealed new details about the upcoming sequel.

The film marks Ford’s final adventure as Indiana Jones, as he takes on his fedora and whips for the last time. It will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18 before its theatrical release on June 30.

The newly released trailer gives a better semblance of the plot. In the new film, it appears that the older Professor Jones is preparing for retirement. However, his daughter, Helena Shaw, is searching for a mysterious item, a dial, which may have the power of time travel. The deal is Helena’s father’s obsession and drives him crazy.

It seems that Jones is also involved in the quest, along with several other villainous characters. Mikkelsen portrays Jürgen Voller, a former Nazi scientist who wants to use the dial to correct Adolf Hitler’s mistakes during World War II. And now, Indy will go on one last world-traveling adventure to find the Dial of Destiny and stop the bad guys.

The film will likely contain flashback scenes set during World War II with a younger Indiana Jones, still played by Ford but with digitally de-aging makeup.

Ford returns as the archeologist hero, Indiana Jones. He stars opposite Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, who returns as Sallah from the first and third films, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Ethann Isidore, and Mikkelsen. Mangold (“The Wolverine,” “Logan”) co-wrote and directed the film. Kennedy produced the film with her husband Frank Marshall, Simon Emanuel, and original creators Steven Spielberg and George Lucas served as executive producers. John Williams, who has scored every Indy theatrical adventure since “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” will rearrange the score.

The last “Indiana Jones” film directed by Steven Spielberg was the fourth installment, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” It was released in May 2008. The film was a box office success, grossing $317 million domestically and $790 million worldwide. It wasn’t one of the most well-liked “Indy” sequels, scoring only 78% with critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
