An Indiana man told police he was “not a bad guy” after he allegedly shot his wife seven times in front of their two children to “neutralize the threat,” police said.

Mohammed Mondal, 45, was arrested and charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and two counts of neglect of duty on Monday, according to Dearborn County Circuit Court records.

He is currently behind bars at the Dearborn Law Enforcement Center without bond, and made an initial court appearance Thursday.

According to a probable cause affidavit reviewed by Fox News Digital, the 45-year-old father of two dialed 911 and reported that he had “accidentally shot his wife,” then spun around and said he shot mother of five Stacy Mondal “in self-defense.” .”

“Sgt. McAllister said he answered the phone, and by the tone of Mondal’s voice, he seemed panicked and upset,” the affidavit read.

A Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department sergeant reportedly replied “Are you serious?” then asked the location of Mondal.

The couple, their two-year-old and fourteen-month-old were allegedly together in their car on their way to JCPenney for a family photo shoot when shots were fired.

Sheriff’s deputies chased after Mondal’s vehicle and followed him to St. John’s Hospital. Elizabeth Dearborn which is nearby on the Ohio border.

In the parking lot, according to the affidavit, deputies saw Mondal’s wife covered in blood and “sliding to the left toward the center console.”

He was pronounced dead at 12:11 p.m., police said.

A small black handgun was found on the passenger side floor near the woman’s feet, according to documents.

In a subsequent interview, Mondal claimed that Stacy, 40, “reached for his gun” and repeated that he shot her in “self-defense.”

He then detailed their “domestic problems”, including various suspected affairs.

“[Mondal] stated that he believed [Stacy] had an affair with a neighbor… during the investigation, detectives learned that Mondal believed that at least two men in his neighborhood had previously had an affair with Stacy and that at least one of them had followed her… Mondal also believed that his father-in-law was following her on the day of the shooting,” the affidavit reads.

Detectives stated in the affidavit that they could find no evidence of Stacy’s alleged infidelity.

“After going to a photo appointment, [Mondal] said that he and Stacy started arguing, and he hit her with his cell phone,” police reported.

“Mondal then stated that he dropped the cell phone and reached for a handgun located in the open center console,” the affidavit continued. “Mondal then stated that he reached for the gun at her and shot Stacy.”

When detectives told Mondal that his wife had been pronounced dead, the man told them “for the first time” that “Stacy [Mondal] pointed a gun at him before he shot him,” police reported.

But detectives wrote that they could find no evidence that Stacy fired the shots during the altercation.

In his last interview, Mondal allegedly said that he fired seven shots at his wife to “neutralize the threat” and insisted that he was “not a bad guy.”

In an interview with local channel WLWT, Stacy’s family said their current focus is “to love and support” the slain woman’s five children.

“We are comforted by family, friends and the outpouring of compassion by our community,” they wrote in a written statement. “Stacy’s spirit will live on.”
