Iranian officials warned late Monday of possible “preemptive action” against Israel by the “resistance front” ahead of the Jewish state’s ground invasion of Gaza.
“The resistance line is capable of waging a long-term war with the enemy [Israel] … in the next few hours, we can expect countermeasures by the resistance,” Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said in a live broadcast on state TV.
Iran denies any involvement in Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel on October 7 that killed 1,400 people, but Tehran has long supported Hamas and supported the plight of the Palestinian people since 1979.
“The resistance leaders will not allow the Zionist regime to take any action in Gaza. … All options are open and we cannot remain indifferent to the war crimes committed against the people of Gaza,” Amirabdollahian added, referring to his meeting with Hezbollah leaders Saturday.
