Henderson told PEOPLE that O’Neal had no idea what had been written about him in the book.

“[Shaquille] haven’t read it yet. I haven’t shared it with anyone but my husband and my publicist at this point,” she told PEOPLE. “Whoever is in it, I think they deserve to know what’s in it before anyone else does.”

Henderson also said he didn’t “throw her under the bus” in the chapter reflecting on their marriage.

“Anything involving Shaquille has always been a blur because he is who he is, and no matter what our story is, nobody wants to hear what could be considered a not-so-great reputation,” he continued.

But O’Neal’s public acknowledgment of what destroyed their marriage made it easier for Henderson to share his truth, saying, “I was like, oh, okay, he told himself.”

Regardless of what he has admitted, Henderson said he was “a little nervous” to share his story.

“I’m really telling my story and my journey, which he’s a part of,” she said. “So I’m always a little nervous about that, but I think I’ve done a good job of sharing my story without destroying it because that wasn’t my intention at all.”

Just before O’Neal shared information about Henderson’s book on social media, he did, too.

“Let me re-introduce myself, my name is Shaunie. Some of you know me for being the mother of my beautiful children, executive producer of a hit reality tv series, wife and last lady to my handsome husband, while being a confidant to my various friends…but check the credits again…I Shaunie THE WRITER! ?✨” he wrote in the caption of the video sharing information about what is in his book.

His caption then explains that he started writing his book over five years ago and “what time can do.”

“Journey with me as I grow through fear, insecurity, self-doubt and arrive at a destination of courage, confidence and assurance,” the caption continued. “This process is scary but settled because I continue to discover myself every day. I’m in my own lane, a lane I’m proud of, and all roads lead to #UNDEFEATED!”

Henderson hopes her story will inspire other women to become “financially, emotionally and mentally independent.”

“There was a time in my life when I was completely dependent on my ex-husband and I didn’t realize it,” she told PEOPLE. “I didn’t even realize it until we got divorced. I didn’t realize I was so co-dependent until it slapped me in the face. And that’s on me. I take full responsibility for that. It’s not Shaquille’s fault, it’s not anyone else’s fault, it’s the mind.”

He credits that realization for how he got to where he is now, calling it his “light bulb moment” or “moment of reality.”

“I’m just trying to share who I am in this book and make it make sense,” he said. “I mean, maybe people will get it, maybe not. But I don’t do it for people. I think I did it just to free myself.”
