Meet Isaiah Lee, Dave Chappelle’s Attack Suspect
On May 3, 2022, comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked by suspect Isaiah Lee while on stage performing in Hollywood. The appearance was part of Netflix Is a Joke Fest, a live comedy festival that kicked off on April 28 and continues through May 8. Dave was performing at the Hollywood Bowl in Hollywood, California at the time of the incident.
According to the video, the man, now identified as Isaiah Lee, jumped on stage and slammed her to the floor. He is armed with a fake gun (a semi-automatic replica) and a knife attached to it that will throw when fired correctly.
Lee was detained by security after the police arrested and took him into custody a short time later. Los Angeles County Jail records show that he was arrested by the Hollywood Division of the LAPD at 11:50 PM local time and booked on May 4, 2022 at 3:36 AM
He was held on $30,000 bond after the incident, according to reports TMZ.
Journalist Sharon Carpenter tweeted, that she was finishing her performance when a man ran on stage and tackled her, knocking her to the floor.
Isaiah has been charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, NBC Los Angeles reported. The motive for the attack has not been made public. heavy reported it was unclear whether he had an attorney or a spokesman who would comment on his behalf.
According to a 32-second version of the video shared on Twitter by the username DoZay, Dave continued the show after the incident. Another video shows comedian Chris Rock joining Chappelle on stage after the incident. The video also shows Chappelle joking about how he “stepped—backstage” after the attack.
After the incident, Isaiah was injured and shared that he was loaded into an ambulance, as tweeted by a Twitter user. According to NBC Los Angeles, the LAPD said the suspect suffered “superficial injuries”.
A witness told TMZ that the attacker got up and started running when a group of people chased him. He was running around the screen on stage when, as an eyewitness said, “the mob caught you with him and beat him, trampled him”. The eyewitness also revealed Jamie Foxx and Busts Rhymes got some licks.
According to photos posted on social media, his arms were back, his eyes were swollen shut, his nose was bleeding, his forehead was swollen and his shoulder was dislocated.
