Israel attacks Hezbollah command center in Lebanon as IDF official stresses importance of probing Oct. 7 ‘failures’

Israel attacked Hezbollah’s command center in Lebanon on Friday as an Israel Defense Forces official stressed the importance of investigating the Oct. 7 military “failure” to help strengthen future war efforts.

The IDF attack on the command center in the Lebanese village of Blida came in response to earlier rocket fire from Lebanon targeting the Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona, according to the Times of Israel.

The Israeli army also used tanks to attack other areas along Lebanon’s southern border, reportedly to thwart a planned attack by Hezbollah, the Iran-backed terrorist group, the Times reported.

Friday’s attack came after IDF Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said investigating the military’s blunder on October 7 — when Hamas attacked Israel — would benefit Israel’s offensive in Gaza.

“Our goal is to constantly improve, draw conclusions from battles, deepen achievements and minimize casualties to our forces,” Hagari said at a press conference, according to The Times of Israel.

“Only a thorough investigation into the truth will allow us to learn from failures and prepare for future security challenges.”

“Only a thorough investigation of the truth will allow us to learn from failures and prepare for future security challenges — 2024 will be a year of battle, and there are lessons to be learned that will help us fight better, in all arenas,” Hagari said.

An investigation into the IDF’s handling of the October 7 invasion has not yet begun, but the IDF is in the process of planning such an investigation and deciding who will lead it, according to Hagari.

Meanwhile, a meeting of Israel’s security cabinet on Thursday night turned heated as the minister and IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi denounced plans for a military investigation into the October 7 crash, according to the Times.

As the war enters its 91st day, France and Jordan have worked together to drop seven tons of aid to the people of Gaza, European president announced on X.

“The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains critical,” said Emmanuel Macron. “In a difficult context, France and Jordan are providing aid by air to the population and those who help them.”

Last month, Macron criticized Israel’s approach in Gaza, saying the Jewish state did not need to “flatten Gaza” to fight terrorism.

“We must not let the idea take root that an efficient fight against terrorism implies flattening Gaza or attacking the civilian population indiscriminately,” he told French media.

He called for the Israeli attack to “stop” because “it is unjustified, because all lives are equal and we defend them.”

Other world leaders have raised concerns about the death toll in Gaza – which has reportedly reached more than 22,000 since Oct. 7. – and the Israeli military says it will try to limit civilian deaths.

Additionally, the IDF announced that there are still 136 hostages being held by Hamas after the three missing Israelis now achieve captive status, it was announced on X.

Hamas has said it will not consider releasing the hostages until Israel agrees to a permanent ceasefire, and has threatened to kill the remaining captives if aid is not brought to Gaza or a prisoner exchange is not fulfilled.

Israel, however, said it would not stop fighting until the terrorist organization was destroyed.
