Israel investigates reports of tunneling in West Bank as locals fear imminent Oct. 7 style attack

Israeli officials have ordered a new investigation into reports of digging noises under an Israeli town near the West Bank this week.

Residents of Bat Hefer have reported hearing digging noises under their homes, which are located just across the border from the West Bank town of Tulkarem.

Officials have carried out three previous inspections and found no evidence of a tunnel, but the city council has now ordered two additional inspections, according to the Times of Israel.

A resident of Bat Hefer recorded the sound and played it in a public broadcast, according to Israeli media.

People across the country remain in a state of heightened tension as they fear another attack similar to the Hamas massacre on October 7.

“We take the report seriously, and are working overtime to review the issue thoroughly and professionally, using various methods. So far, three reviews have been conducted and two more will be conducted in the next few days. So far, no findings indicate excavations,” the Emek Hefer Regional Council told Israeli media.

Residents of the town said they were still scared when they saw Hezbollah firing missiles and rockets across Israel’s northern border.

“The situation is really bad,” a resident of Gadi Ohayon stated on Israeli radio. “We live in a constant state of insecurity, the settlement is targeted by direct and indirect fire almost every day. We can show you a picture of the shell from our yard.”

“They rocked us, just like they rocked the South and just like they rocked the North. We are also no less risky. Maybe it won’t happen in a minute, but we can’t be surprised. Once they cross the fence of Bat Hefer and nearby settlements, Kfar Saba, Raanana, Hadera, Netanya, and the entire line will be attacked, all the way to the sea,” he added.

The Israeli army is working to eliminate Hamas from the terrorist organization’s labyrinth of tunnels under Gaza. IDF forces began pumping seawater into the Hamas tunnel system on December 14, but officials warned it would be a weeks-long process.

Israel has identified about 800 tunnels under Gaza that Hamas has used to move fighters, store weapons and plan terrorist attacks on Israel. Israeli officials believe the tunnel network is much larger, however.
