Israel raids terrorists’ luxury homes, take over parliament and police HQs in Gaza

Israel raided the luxury homes of Hamas terrorists and the parliament and police headquarters in Gaza City on Sunday, taking control of the site and revealing numerous weapons and tunnel entrances underneath.

Israeli paratroopers and armored units descended on the neighborhoods of Sheikh Ijlin and Rimal, carrying out a series of rocket launches and raids in the heart of Gaza City, where Hamas has maintained power since 2007.

Much of the once affluent area has been flattened by Israeli airstrikes since the war began last month, but the Israel Defense Forces said it still found several Hamas operatives in Sheikh Ijlin and Rimal and killed them while also raiding several wealthy terrorist homes.

The IDF said it found 35 tunnel shafts in the area leading to Hamas’ 300-mile underground network, along with dozens of weapons caches, The Jerusalem Post reported.

In addition, the IDF’s 7th Armored Brigade and the Golani Infantry Brigade managed to take control of the Hamas parliament building, the entire government complex and its police headquarters, The Times of Israel said.

The IDF also captured a Gaza university faculty building, which was allegedly used to produce and develop weapons for the terrorist group.

Hamas training bases, command centers, interrogation rooms and detention cells are also guarded by advancing Israeli forces.

Hamas officials have yet to comment on the fighting in Sheikh Ijlin and Rimal, as constant communications blackouts have become the norm in Gaza.

In other developments:

  • The White House warned Israel against an all-out attack on southern Gaza until the IDF finds a way to attack there while avoiding the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who fled south at Israel’s behest.
  • Iran-backed Yemen-based Houthi rebels have seized an Israeli-linked cargo ship in the Red Sea carrying dozens of people as they vowed to launch attacks on ships flying the Israeli flag.
  • The Palestinian Authority’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the Jewish state of killing several of its own citizens on Oct. 7, claiming that an Israeli police helicopter may have accidentally fired at attendees of the Nova Music festival in Israel that day while trying to respond to a Hamas attack as it attacked the event.

Israel’s offensive in Gaza on Sunday was the latest in the IDF’s advance in the north of the territory as it seeks to eliminate Hamas after the terror group’s October 7 attack that claimed the lives of more than 1,200 people, mostly Israeli civilians.

More than 11,500 Palestinians have been killed since the war broke out, according to Gaza’s Hamas-linked Health Ministry, with at least 11 more killed on Sunday after an Israeli airstrike hit a house in Jabalia.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Sunday that two schools had been hit by airstrikes in less than 24 hours in Gaza, killing scores of women and children.

“Hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians are seeking refuge in United Nations facilities across Gaza following intensifying fighting,” Guterres said in a statement. “I confirm that our premises are inviolable.”

The secretary-general’s statement came as Philippe Lazzarini, head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, said the shelters in Gaza could not afford to become “collateral damage” in the Israel-Hamas war.

“Most of the affected facilities have families inside – including the elderly, parents, and children,” Lazzarini said in a statement. “They are all clearly marked as UN buildings carrying blue flags.

“Once again, shelters meant to provide safety and protection to civilians have been hit, killing many people, including children,” he said. “This act is not only a flagrant violation of the rules of war, it also shows a disregard for humanity.”
