They are Israel’s dogs of war.
Army canine units are helping to map Palestinian buildings before troops move in — and even flush out hiding terrorists — while wearing body cameras and climbing into holes too small for humans, a newly released video shows.
Israel’s Oketz unit, a special force of military dogs, sends its four-legged soldiers “in a large number of cases” to try to help save lives, the Times of Israel said in a Sunday report.
“The dogs have detected threats, mapped buildings and found weapons,” the Times of Israel reporter said Emanuel Fabian said on X.
A canine named Toy was sent to a building in the Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City and found a path between a building where IDF troops were stationed and a separate building where a Hamas gunman was waiting, the outlet reported.
In another close call, a military dog named Patrick was deployed with the 460th Armored Brigade in Jabaliya and was sent to scout a building before troops moved in.
An Israeli military dog named Patrick subdued a Hamas terrorist who was waiting to ambush Israeli forces in Gaza, Israel said. Meet “Toy,” the Israeli military dog that takes out Hamas terrorists waiting to ambush Israeli forces in Gaza. Toy military dogs are part of a special unit that tries to sniff out terrorists in the Gaza Strip.
Patrick found and subdued a terrorist who was planning to ambush the army, Israel said.
Israeli footage shows the dogs, with pack lights and body cameras, climbing into bombed-out buildings all day over rubble and through holes in walls too small for humans.
Other clips show dogs leading soldiers up stairs or around blind corners in buildings.
Israeli troops moved into Palestinian-occupied Gaza after a sneak attack on Israel on October 7 by Hamas terrorists, which killed about 1,200 Israelis, mostly civilians.
Thousands of Palestinians have since been killed in Israeli counter-attacks, which have also displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians along the Gaza border.
