An Israeli hostage who was reportedly killed in custody in Gaza by an Israeli airstrike was released by Hamas on Friday.

Hannah Katzir, 77, was among 13 Israeli hostages released Friday as part of a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the Times of Israel reported.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad said Katzir was killed in an Israeli attack several days ago.

The group wrote in a Telegram message, translated by Reuters: “We previously expressed our willingness to release him for humanitarian reasons, but the enemy stalled and this led to his death.”

Turkish state news agency Anadolu Agency also quoted the terrorist group as saying, “We announce the death of settler Hannah Katzir, whom we previously expressed our willingness to release on humanitarian grounds.

“But the enemy’s delay cost him his life.”

“Based on this announcement, we renew our pledge to abdicate our responsibility towards the prisoners of our enemies in light of the barbaric frenzy bombardment of every inch of the Gaza Strip.”

But on Friday, Katzir was among those transported safely by emergency vehicle back to Israel, the Times of Israel reported.

“This manipulation of pain is a psychological warfare that will escalate in the coming days,” Eli Kowaz, senior adviser to the Israel Policy Forum, write as an answer.

Officials from the al-Quds Brigade claimed they were ready to release him on November 9 on humanitarian grounds.

He was later seen in a video released by the terrorist group in a wheelchair as he claimed Hamas “did everything” to take care of him and his fellow hostages.
