Israeli husband, dad hugs wife and young daughters in tearful reunion

An Israeli husband and father was captured on video hugging his wife and two daughters after they were freed by Hamas on the first day of a ceasefire.

Yoni Asher, 37, hugs his wife, Doron Katz Asher, 34, and daughters Raz, 4, and Aviv, 2, at Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Petah Tikva Friday, a video shared by the hospital shows.

Doron, Raz, and Aviv were abducted by Hamas from Doron’s mother’s home in Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7, the Times of Israel reported.

Doron’s mother, Efrat Katz, was killed by terrorists in the surprise attack, the outlet added.

At one point during a touching family reunion of four, Raz is heard telling his father that he dreams of going home.

“Your dreams come true. Soon we will be home. We are only here for the doctor to check you, and then we go home,” said Yoni.

“My family Doron Raz and Aviv came home to me,” Yoni later said in a statement, according to the Times of Israel. “I am determined to help my family recover from the terrible trauma and loss we have gone through, for the sake of the future of the girls and Doron.”

“I’m happy because I got my family back,” he continued. “But I don’t celebrate, I won’t celebrate until the last hostage returns,” referring to the hundreds of prisoners still in Hamas custody.

“I want to emphasize — our children, our fathers, our mothers, our sisters — at this moment in captivity, there are people who are heartbroken at this moment and I want to make sure that every last hostage will come home. “

Doron, Raz, and Aviv were among 24 hostages, mostly Israelis and Thais, freed Friday in the first phase of a tentative Israeli-Hamas ceasefire deal.

The group, which included several women and children, were pictured reuniting with their families as they received medical assessments.

A second group of about 13 more hostages is expected to be released on Saturday in exchange for 39 Palestinian prisoners.
