Israeli mom, Thai hostage released by Hamas reunite after forming special bond during captivity

An Israeli mother and her daughter formed a close relationship with a Thai woman while the three were held by Hamas for nearly two months – and were recently reunited in an emotional video call.

“I love you and I told you when we were there that we are family,” Daniella Aloni, 45, told Nutthawaree “Yo” Munkan in Hebrew during a five-minute conversation on Wednesday, according to a video shared by Israel’s Foreign Ministry. .

Munkan – an agricultural worker kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 and held with Aloni and his daughter – answered in Thai from a room in the hospital, and was translated by Daniel Porat, an Israeli psychologist who treated the freed Thai hostages.

“He said you are also beautiful and Emilia is beautiful. He misses you so much,” Porat told five-year-old Aloni and Emilia.

At the start of the video, Emilia can be heard counting to 10 in Thai while Munkan smiles and counts with her fingers.

A few minutes later, Emilia sang a song that sounded like a Thai song.

“Yo want to say thank you,” Porat told Aloni on behalf of the Thai woman.

“Tell him from me that he looks great and his face looks great,” Aloni replied.

“We both give [Yo] a very tight hug.”

At the end of the call, Munkan blew a kiss to the phone screen as his partner, who was also held hostage and released this week, looked on.

“At the first opportunity, we will come to Thailand. How fun it is to see him like this,” Aloni gushed.

It was unclear where Aloni and Emilia were calling from, as they had already been released from hospital after being released on November 24 as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

The mother and daughter were visiting with Aloni’s sister’s family at Kibbutz Nir Oz when Hamas terrorists stormed the community and killed or kidnapped about a quarter of its 400 residents.

Munken, 35, reportedly came to Israel to find work, and was working on the Mivtachim farm when she met her partner Bunthom Phankong.

Both were also kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 and spent almost two months as hostages in the Gaza Strip.

They were also released on Friday, although it is unclear whether Munken and Alonis spent the entire six-week ordeal together.
