Israeli forces have arrested about 20 Hamas terrorists holed up inside Khan Younis hospital in Gaza – with Jewish soldiers assisted by medical staff awaiting the delivery of oxygen tanks, officials said.
Several special units of the Israel Defense Forces were deployed to Al-Amal Hospital last week after intelligence suggested Hamas operatives were operating in the public space, the Israeli military said Saturday.
With the help of Al-Amal Hospital staff, the army was able to locate the terrorists and subdue them without firing a shot or interfering with any medical procedures.
“This operation once again proves the cynical modus operandi of the terrorist organization Hamas, which uses hospitals and civilians to hide terrorists,” the IDF said in a statement.
Hamas members have been detained and taken to Israel for questioning, the army added.

After the arrest, the IDF worked with the Coordination and Liaison Administration for Gaza to deliver more than 20 donated oxygen tanks to the hospital.
The IDF stated that before the operation, its troops were briefed on “the importance of preventing harm to patients, medical personnel, civilians, and medical equipment, in accordance with international law.”
Like other medical facilities located throughout Gaza, Al-Amal hospital has struggled to care for its patients as the conflict from Israel and Hamas has left tens of thousands injured.

Nearly 68,000 people have been injured in the war so far, with the death toll in Gaza exceeding 28,000, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry.
The arrests at Al-Amal hospital were just a few of hundreds over the past week in Khan Younis, which continues to see the heaviest fighting of the war.
With the IDF advancing on Khan Younis, the largest city in southern Gaza, hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees fleeing the north have fled further south to Rafah.
Rafah, now Gaza’s most populous city home to more than 1.4 million refugees, could see an unprecedented level of civilian loss as the IDF prepares to attack it to destroy Hamas terrorists and try to locate the 136 hostages who remain in Gaza.

On Saturday, 43 Palestinians were killed in an airstrike in Rafah that killed Iman Rantisi, a senior Hamas police officer.
President Biden warned Israel on Sunday not to proceed to the southern Gaza city of Rafah “without a credible and workable plan to ensure safety and support for the more than one million people taking refuge there.”
