Israeli woman who cooked for her Hamas captors saved with help of police-officer son

An Israeli woman who cooked for Hamas kidnappers was rescued with the help of her police officer’s son – who found his mother held by the throat by armed terrorists in her home.

Amazing details of the rescue emerged Tuesday, after Rachel Edri and her husband David were held in their Ofakim home, located 25 miles from Gaza, by Hamas terrorists for 20 hours.

The couple’s son, Evi, who is a police officer, will soon be part of the operation that frees the couple.

Evi entered her parents’ home, armed with a gun, to find her mother held by the neck by a terrorist holding a grenade in one hand, threatening to kill her, according to ABC News, which spoke to the family.

Rachel held up five fingers to her face to show her son that there were five kidnappers in the house.

The SWAT team finally told Evi to back off for taking over the rescue.

David reportedly jumped to cover his wife as a SWAT team stormed in to rescue them.

Rachel Edri and her husband David were held inside their Ofakim home by Hamas terrorists for 20 hours.

The couple’s home was left covered in blood and ransacked from the rescue mission.

While in captivity, Rachel made sure her captors were well fed, telling ABC News: “I know that if they’re hungry, they’re angry.”

During that time, Rachel entertains unwanted guests by cooking, offering cookies and coffee and asking for Arabic lessons.

“I told him I had to inject insulin, trying to distract them from the fact that I have a son who is a police officer … I offered them drinks: Coke Zero, water,” he told Haaretz.

In an attempt to buy more time, Rachel starts talking and joking with her captor.

“I said, ‘I’ll teach you Hebrew and you’ll teach me Arabic,'” he told a local outlet. “I understand that it is a matter of life and death.”

Around midnight, the couple was rescued.

Hamas terrorists launched their worst attack on Israel in 50 years on Saturday, sparking a war that has killed more than 1,100 Israelis and nearly as many Palestinians.

President Biden on Tuesday said 14 Americans were among those killed in Israel, while other US citizens were being held hostage.

He did not say how many Americans were taken hostage, but other officials said at least 20 US citizens were missing.

Biden blasted the “untainted” and “bloodthirsty” Hamas attacks, saying they were worse than those of ISIS.
