Per Deadline, the narrative of the upcoming film was inspired by the contents of Priscilla Presley’s 1985 memoir, “Elvis and Me.” It details Elvis’ wife’s first interaction with the music legend, their marriage, his various affairs, his involvement in spiritualism, and other issues that led to the couple’s divorce.
Coppola, who also wrote the script, is known for “The Virgin Suicides,” “Marie Antoinette,” and other notable films, including “On the Rocks” and “The Bling Ring.”

The Apartment, a Fremantle Company, Sony’s Stage 6 Films and American Zoetrope will finance the film, which will be produced by Coppola, Henley, Lorenzo Mieli of The Apartment, a Fremantle Company and American Zoetrope. The film will be distributed by A24, Vision Distribution, Stage 6 Films, and Sony Pictures International Releasing. The film’s release date is still unknown.

Jacob Elordi On Elvis Presley
While the news of Elordi playing Elvis is a recent development, the actor has previously declared his admiration for the music maestro. In him GQ cover story in September 2022, he revealed that his love for him made him buy Peter Guralnick’s Elvis biography Last Train to Memphis.

Per Many peopleElordi said at the time, “I was just like, shit, Elvis Presley wanted to be James Dean. He wanted to be Marlon Brando. I researched almost every actor from that time period, and I passed [Elvis] as an entertainer and singer.”
He continued, “But then he’s an actor. I guess, in a way, I’m trying to learn from these people. Because I obviously don’t have friends who’ve been through the same thing, so they’re almost like guiding lights.”
Cailee Spaeny Will Star Opposite Jacob Elordi
Other cast details have not been released as the film is still in pre-production. However, it has been confirmed that actress Spaeny will star in Elordi as Elvis’ then-wife, Priscilla. Per DeadlineSpaeny was Coppola’s top choice for the part of Priscilla, unlike Elordi, who won the role after the filmmaker met with several actors.

Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Elvis’
Coppola’s take on Elvis comes after Baz Luhrmann’s version, which began receiving critical acclaim earlier this year. It features Austin Butler as the famous singer and Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla, while Hollywood legend Tom Hanks portrays Elvis’ evil manager, Kol. Tom Parker.

The film was also praised by Priscilla, who was initially skeptical that Luhrmann could do justice to a theatrical staging of the musical icon but was satisfied with the finished product when it aired on HBO’s streaming platform.
“I was a bit worried at first when I heard it [Baz] is making the film,” he said Fox News. “And at the end I said, ‘Wow. This is Elvis, really.'”
It remains to be seen how Coppola’s upcoming version will fair when it debuts. Filming for “Priscilla” will begin in Toronto later this fall.
