Jada Pinkett-Smith’s ‘Red Table Talk’ Gets The Axe After 5 Seasons

After airing on Facebook Watch for nearly half a decade since May 7, 2018, talk show “Red Table Talk'” is set to end along with several other OG shows on the platform.

This comes after the production, which stars Jada Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow Smith and her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, was renewed for a fifth season, which premiered on April 20, 2022.

‘Red Table Talk’ Will Be Canceled Along With Other FB Watch Original Shows

Facebook Watch will exit the talk show business but focus on “creating VR experiences in Meta Horizon Worlds” while ending its original series.

Many of the parent company’s staff, some 20,000, have been laid off, including Mina Lefevre, who was Head of Development and Programming at Meta and EVP and Head of Scripting at MTV.

According to Deadline, the recent exit “comes amid a pivot for Facebook, which has scaled back its original programming efforts since the days of scripted series.” Lefevre oversees the series, and some include “Sorry for Your Loss” and “Holy Lies” led by Elizabeth Olsen.

Additionally, it was reported that none of the remaining FB Watch Originals will return for the new season, most notably “Red Table Talk.” Meanwhile, as the company shifts its focus, FB Watch remains the go-to video player for new VR content, with members of Lefevre’s team, including Thomas Stockwell, continuing to “work on original programming with an emphasis on VR-first shows.”

Please note that “Red Table Talk” with its spin-off, “Red Table Talk: The Estefans,” is the last original FB Watch and has completed its original order. In addition to the “Red Table Talk” franchise, several others launched under Lefevre, such as, “Steve on Watch,” “Piece of Mind with Taraji,” MTV’s “The Real World” reboot and “Unfiltered: Paris Jackson.”

Meta’s focus away from its original plan follows a similar move by Google last year, using its YouTube division to refocus on user-generated content. Some of Meta’s original productions are leaning toward that progress: “The Notorious BIG Sky’s The Limit: A VR Concert Experience in Celebrating Biggie’s 50th Birthday,” “The Shaq’tacular Spectacular,” and Meta’s first VR comedy with comedians like Pete Holmes and Nikki Glaser.

Fans of the “Red Table Talk” franchise will surely be disappointed to see the show go and miss its heyday. They also must have recalled a fun behind-the-scenes moment when the host’s husband, Will Smith, teased their children who were on time for filming.

As reported by The Blast, the famous actor took to Instagram to share a video showing him telling his children to arrive at 1pm since filming started an hour later. His daughter arrived first and rather early at 12:31 p.m., followed by Trey, his oldest son, who arrived on set at 12:46 p.m. and who Will would refer to as “The Most Expectable Child.”

Last was an undisturbed Jaden, who came in at 1:54 p.m., wearing a white shirt, black jacket and blue jeans. At the end of the video, the “Emancipation” star filmed herself sharing a laugh with her children. And in the caption, she joked, “Jaden is never late, and he’s never early; he came on time.”

‘The Matrix’ Cast’s Husband Honors Coachella In Support Of Their Daughter

Since the 2022 Oscars scandal involving Will and comedian Chris Rock, the “Hancock” actor hasn’t made a major public appearance until the 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. He attended the event to support his daughter and her performance while making sure she made a note for the gram.

In a video recounting her Coachella experience, she was clearly on cloud nine and exclaimed in the caption, “WILLOWCHELLA!!” The excited dad mingled with the crowd in a casual outfit consisting of a black and white striped shirt and a black face mask.

During the shoot, she captured her baby girl’s performance before turning the camera to show her happy expression, which many of her followers saw and were happy to witness.

One such admirer said in the comments section: “Proud dad looks,” similar to another who mentioned that Will showed “genuine pride and selfless adoration there.”
