While at the National Theater of the Deaf (NTD), James began directing theater performances. At the Community College of Baltimore County Community Theater, James directed William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in both American Sign Language and spoken English. He also played “Billy” in three separate productions of Nina Raine’s Tribes, including SpeakEasy Stage Company, Studio Theatre, and Berkeley Repertory Theatre. Similarly, he worked with several actors, such as “Laurent Clerc” in Journey of Identity and “Dylan Thomas” in A Child’s Christmas in Wales, among others. In 2015, he made his broadcast debut as Peter Rush in two episodes of NBC’s Chicago Med.
