In conversation with New York Times, Corden addressed claims made by McNally, Balthazar’s owner, that the television personality’s behavior when he visited was appalling.

On Monday, McNally, 71, banned Corden from eating at Balthazar and referred to him as “the most abusive customer to my Balthazar employee since the restaurant started 25 years ago.” The punishment, however, only lasted a few hours since Corden “profusely apologized,” according to a follow-up post by McNally.

The Time the writer said that James was praised for continuing the interview after the event that made headlines, but the celebrity did not give up.

“I have not done anything wrong, at any level. So why would I cancel this? I was there. I get it,” the late-night talk show host said in an interview published Thursday about his drama with McNally, adding, “I feel so Zen about it all. Because I think it’s so silly.”

Allegedly ‘Abusive’ Incident

Earlier this week, Corden made headlines when McNally took to Instagram to detail how the comedian, whom he called “a little cretin,” had abused his staff on two occasions when he visited his restaurant.

The first example refers to an incident in June when Corden found hair in his food while eating at a table with friends. McNally said that the manager apologized profusely for the accident but Corden took a “nasty” tone and asked for all his bills for the night to be written off. He also allegedly asked for extra drinks.

Referring to the second incident, which occurred on Oct. 9, McNally noted that Corden “started yelling like a maniac” at his staff after discovering that the egg yolk omelet his wife, Julia Carey, had ordered had “some egg. white.” McNally also claimed that the comedian complained further when the remade dish came out with home fries instead of salad.

In McNally’s post, several individuals commented on Corden’s attitude during the incident, and some even threatened to boycott some of his shows.

One fan said, “You can tell a lot about someone by how they treat people in the service industry. I will never be able to watch carpool karaoke again with this in the back of my head. Glad you made this public. Maybe he will treat people better in the future.”

Another follower commented, “There is a special place in hell for people who treat hospitality staff as if they are beneath them.”

Another wrote, “I often wonder if there is a limit to that tolerance and cool down. I am very happy to see that there is. No staff should be treated like this, no matter how good an establishment is.”

When the 44-year-old celebrity was asked pointedly if he was aware of the internet chatter after McNally’s allegations, Corden said that he wasn’t following it.

He said, per Metro, “I didn’t read anything. it’s strange It’s weird when you’re there. I think I might have to talk about it on Monday’s show,” he admitted. “My feelings, usually, never explain, never complain. But I might have to talk about it.

In addition, James advises people to “grow up a bit” about it and maintains that real life is a lot different than social media.

He added, “Shouldn’t we all be adults about this? I promise you, ask around this restaurant. They don’t know about this. Maybe 15 percent of people.”
