Career
In 2013, James Ennis started playing basketball. He began his professional basketball career after being selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2013 NBA draft. On the same draft night, he was traded to the Miami Heat. James joined the Heat and participated in the NBA Summer League in 2013. Due to salary cap rules, the Heat were unable to contact him to play for their NBA Development League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. He decided to play abroad to support his family. On 10 August 2013, he joined the Perth Wildcats and scored 25 points in his first game, earning him the Most Valuable Player award. He moved to Puerto Rico and joined the Piratas de Quebradillas, where he played 12 games before joining the NBA.
Ennis signed a multi-year deal with the Miami Heat on July 15, 2014, and participated in the 2021 NBA Summer League. On October 29, 2014, he made his debut for the Miami Heat in a win against the Washington Wizards. On November 10, 2015, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies and assigned to the D-League Iowa Energy of the Grizzlies. He was released by the organization in March 2016 and was reacquired by Iowa Energy on March 6, 2016.
