According to a report by DiversityDC executives have been writing new “Superman” stories for “some time” now, hence the need to recast the famous role.

“Peter & I have a ready-to-use DC board, which we can’t find out more about; we will be able to share some exciting information about our first project early in the new year,” Gunn tweeted.

According to the label’s president, Cavill could not play Superman because of the new film’s initial focus on the character’s early years.

Sources cited in Variety said the plot will focus on the character’s time spent working as an upcoming journalist in the fictional city of Metropolis. Fans will see him interact with important personalities, such as his colleague and future wife, Lois Lane.

Gunn revealed to fans that he would write but did not yet know who would direct; he hinted that Cavill might reprise other DC characters in the future.
