He grew up in Victoria, British Columbia, and usually played after school with his older brother. He aspired to become a lawyer like his father when he was young. His focus eventually shifted to athletics. He always wanted to be a professional hockey player and chose ice hockey as his sport.

Career
Jamie Benn began his professional sports career with the “Kelowna Rockets” at the junior level. He was a center who scored more than 60 points in his first season in 2007-08. Benn developed into a solid player, with more assists than goals and a knack for setting up his teammates for important points. He won the 2009 Memorial Cup in Quebec while playing with this team. He was then promoted to the wider NHL ranks and joined the Dallas Stars in 2009, scoring his first goal in October of the same year.
In October of the same year, Benn also played abroad. From 2012 to 2013, he also played for Hamburg Freezers in Germany. Then, in 2013, Benn opted out of his contract and returned to the NFL. He made his international debut in 2009 when he competed in the World Junior Championships in Ottawa. They won the championship after defeating Sweden in the last 5 goals to 1.
