Jamie Lee Curtis And Lindsay Lohan Revisit ‘Freaky Friday’ Memories For 20th Anniversary

The girls of “Freaky Friday” throw it back for its most significant achievement. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have reflected on their relationship during a reunion interview to mark the film’s second decade since its release.

The plot for the original Disney comedy — directed by Mark Waters — sees the two leads switch bodies and live in their respective realities to learn lessons about family. The duo starred alongside other stars, including Mark Harmon, Lucille Soong, Chad Michael Murray, Willie Garson, and Harold Gould.

Speculation about a proposed “Freaky Friday 2” began in February when Curtis uploaded an image of him and Lohan on social media with the caption, “It’s Friday. Just saying! Freaky fingers crossed!”

Along with the post’s 355,000 likes, it also generated hopeful chatter in the comments section, with one delighted fan gushing, “Oh God, it’s (almost) Happening!!! Please, Disney!!!!.”

Another excited fan commented, “Whaaaaaa!????!! ???,” and a third asked, “WE GOT THE BAND BACK TOGETHER??” “Now this is a sequel WE WANT!” a fourth netizen exclaimed, while a fifth declared, “One of the best Disney movies, and all thanks to your acting.”

While Instagram updates are important, something bigger happens when the on-screen mother-daughter duo reunites for a conversation with The New York Times to celebrate the film’s 20th anniversary.

During the interview, the now 64-year-old Curtis revealed that he received constant requests about a possible “Freaky Friday” sequel while promoting his 2022 film, “Halloween Ends.” At that time he felt a change, as he recounts:

“Something really struck a chord. When I got back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It sounds like there’s going to be a movie.'”

The actress’ sentiment was echoed by the now 34-year-old Lohan, who stated, “Jamie and I were both open to it, so we left it in the hands that were there. We’re just going to make something that people are going to like.”

Before that, the “Mean Girls” actress recalled being a part of the original film, “As an 11-year-old kid, ‘The Parent Trap’ felt so big to me. I threw myself into accents, green screen, and playing two people. So I felt comfortable after that. ‘Freaky Friday’ felt different because I went through all the phases of a 16-year-old [but playing a character who was a year younger].”

Last November, the Grammy Award winner shared that “the right people are talking” about a sequel. During the conversation, which took place at the premiere of his 2022 mystery film, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” he stated:

“We are both committed to it, and it is not our right to do it. It’s Disney to make, and I think they’re interested, and we’re talking.”

“Happy Birthday, @jamieleecurtis love you! May you have love and joy on your birthday!” the “I Live for the Day” singer wrote along with a string of emojis, including cake, praying hands, party poppers and festive bells.

Curtis himself marked his big day by reflecting on his life through a lengthy caption on Instagram that began, “TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY! First, I want to thank Janet Leigh for bringing me here. I also want to thank her for her example as a woman who spent most of her life helping others.”

“My little company @my_hand_in_yours is growing, and we still have a $25,000 matching grant from @portosbakery until the end of the month,” the celeb wrote before adding:

“There is still a week left. We are approaching a grant. Remember that every item in this store, every penny spent goes to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles so you can still give twice with a grant and give every day with a wonderful connection to the care and treatment of critically ill, sick and injured children @childrensla come join us.”

The “small company” in question is the Academy Award-winning actress’ charity, which became an instant hit thanks to Dorit Kemsley making it “stylish” on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”
