Jamie Lee Curtis Green Lights ‘Freaky Friday’ Sequel With Lindsay Lohan

Jamie Lee Curtis has hinted at a possible sequel to the movie “Freaky Friday!”

In the Hollywood film, released in August 2003, Curtis starred alongside Lindsay Lohan, who played his daughter, Anna. The film quickly became a critically acclaimed comedy, grossing over $160 million at the Box Office. Now, the 64-year-old has shared her excitement about working on the second part of the film with Lohan.

Jamie Lee Curtis Expresses Excitement For Upcoming ‘Freaky Friday’ Sequel

When fans saw Curtis on the red carpet of the Producers Guild Awards on February 25, they didn’t expect him to make their day. However, that’s exactly what the actress did as she indulged in an interview that saw her reveal that she and Lohan would be more than happy to reprise their roles in the comedy’s follow-up.

“It will happen. Without saying anything officially happened, I look at you at this moment and say, ‘Of course it will.’ It will happen,” Curtis gushed Diversity.

Although the beloved scream queen didn’t say anything else, fans remembered when she reminisced about her time on “Freaky Friday,” with a throwback photo of herself and Lohan. For the pic, the “Halloween” actress wore a purple scarf, black top, and matching leather jacket, while her on-screen daughter sported a white lace top and velvet jacket.

The two stars smiled as Lohan put her hand on Curtis’ shoulder and leaned into him. The “True Lies” actress tagged the singer and Disney in the post, which she captioned, “It’s Friday. Just saying! Freaky fingers crossed!” In response, the 36-year-old posted a crossed fingers emoji along with heart eyes and a raised hand emoticon — causing fans to erupt with even more excitement.

“Oh God, it (almost) Happened!!! Please, Disney!!!!,” screamed one, while another gushed, “whaaaaaa!????!! ???.” A third fan wrote, “Not dramatic but if this doesn’t happen I’m going to explode or something,” and a fourth fan asked if it would be possible to direct a stream of requests for a sequel on Twitter.

While the Instagram post was an important update, Curtis has been offering hints at a “Freaky Friday” sequel since last year. In November, The Blast reported that the Primetime Emmy Award winner told “TODAY” that it would make sense for her and Lohan to reprise their roles. In his words:

“The music, Lindsay (Lohan)… it’s just a great movie and it kind of makes sense that we’d do it again.”

The mother of two children again admitted that she wanted her character — Dr. Tess Coleman — becoming a grandmother, citing the comedic impact of seeing Lohan in the role as the reason.

Since the talk about the ‘nepo baby’ started last December, some special stars have continued to join it. Curtis became one of its many contributors when he took to Instagram to rant about the dangers the debate poses.

According to The Blast, the Austin Film Critics Association winner uploaded two photos of herself and her famous parents — Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis — along with a lengthy caption that began:

“Not a day of my professional life goes by without me being reminded that I am the son of a movie star.”

After Curtis claimed that the ‘nepo baby’ debate was “just designed to try to diminish and aggravate and hurt,” the Golden Globe Award winner reflected on her career, which has spanned more than four decades.

With his experience so far, the actor admits to navigating Hollywood “with the edge that my associated and reflective fame brings” to him. Still thinking about his career, Curtis added:

“It’s strange how we are quick to make assumptions and slurs that someone who is related to someone else who is famous in their art somehow has no talent whatsoever. I have learned that is not true.”

The children’s book author later highlighted her work with “thousands of thousands of people,” encouraging her to “bring integrity and professionalism and love and community and art to my work.” Curtis concluded the statement by reminding his followers to “try to find that still voice” that reminds them to “CLEAN GOOD, BE GOOD; DO GOOD.”
