Curtis, who portrayed Lohan’s on-screen mother in the beloved film “Freaky Friday,” revealed that the much-anticipated sequel to the hit film is now on hold due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, per Entertainment Weekly.

“Oh, it will happen. Definite. Oh, sure. No question,” Curtis told the news outlet, referring to the long-awaited “Freaky Friday 2.”

“Yes, except the story needs a writer, and at the moment, there are no writers because they are all fighting for their lives, creative lives, emotional lives and financial lives,” he shared.

The “Everything Everywhere All At One” actor continued, “We’re in the middle of a contract dispute. So until those writers are properly paid and protected by the producers who are making billions off of them, we won’t be able to tell you more more about the ‘Freaky Friday’ sequel, except it’s happening.”

The Writers Guild of America, which represents thousands of screenwriters, has been involved in a strike to get fair pay and protections for its members. They have recently been joined by the Screen Actors Guild, SAF-AFTRA, in solidarity to demand better wages amid the new era of streaming and the rapid adoption of AI technology.
