Hollywood star Jared Leto gets another chance to express his love for fashion behind the camera. The actress is all set to star in the late fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld in an upcoming biopic.
Lagerfeld was best known as the artistic director for the popular fashion brand Chanel before his death in February 2019. The iconic designer left his mark on the fashion industry in his five-decade career. He also inspired many fashionistas like Leto.
The actor, who is excited to play Lagerfeld, is also producing the film with Emma Ludbrook. The two will work with Paradox, the production company they also own. According to reports, fashion house Karl Lagerfeld is backing the project and can’t wait to see Leto in action. The CEO, Pier Paolo Righi, also said they just felt absolutely confident about working on the project with Leto and Ludbrook.

The “Morbius” actor spoke about his upcoming project recently Women’s Daily Wear interview. Although production on the biopic has yet to begin, Leto revealed what audiences should expect to see. He noted that it will focus on Lagerfeld’s relationships with “many” people he met during his lifetime.
Leto said, “Karl had a career that spanned over 50 years, so personally and professionally he was close to quite a few people.” The project will also show viewers a “different side” of the designer’s life that the public doesn’t know about. Collaborating with the late iconic brand, Leto brought in three of Lagerfeld’s old friends to join the project.
As it stands, Sébastien Jondeau, who works as Lagerfield’s bodyguard and personal assistant, Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of fashion house Karl Lagerfeld, and Caroline Lebar, brand image and SVP of communications, will executive produce the film. Leto said he was honored to work with the team to produce a film about someone who inspired him.

Even in death, Lagerfield is still an inspiration to many, including Leto. Speaking about the biopic, Leto revealed how much he looked up to the 85-year-old before he died. He said, “Karl has always been an inspiration to me.” Leto also noted that Lagerfeld was very talented and described him as “an artist, an innovator, a leader, and, most importantly, a kind man.”
Besides Leto, the late fashion icon impacted many other lives in Hollywood. Recently, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, together with Anna Wintour (Global Editorial Director and Chief Content Officer of Vogue), announced that Lagerfeld will inspire the theme of the 2023 MET Gala and Costume Institute Exhibition.
The theme is “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” and will focus on the star’s creative process over more than 50 years as a designer and feature more than 150 of his best outfits. Leto, who showed his passion for fashion on the red carpet, plans to make her proud. Current WWD interview, he revealed that he shares a “creative vision” with Lagerfeld’s team and plans to “push the boundaries” to create a great film.

Leto also stated that many parts of Lagerfeld’s life were explored in the film. He explained that Lagerfeld “is human” and isn’t perfect like everyone else, saying, “We all have faults.” However, he plans to show the designer’s strengths and weaknesses in the film.

Karl Lagerfeld’s brand is also excited to collaborate with Leto as they revealed he is perfect for the role. The company’s CEO, Righi, reportedly stated that several producers in Hollywood asked them to collaborate on Lagerfeld’s posthumous biopic. However, they turned it down because the offer did not inspire them.
Leto and Emma Ludbrook were the only ones they “felt absolutely confident” about working on the project. They also stated that late fashion influencers would be proud of them. Righi said, “Karl would love to see that.” He also revealed that they had bonded with Leto and Ludbrook in a short time and were confident of creating a “beautiful project” with them.
