Amidst the death and destruction spreading around Maui, especially with Lahaina literally leveled to the ground, a new fear is emerging among the survivors, something Jason Momoa shared via his social media.
Jason Momoa Shares Concerns Over Land Acquisition Amid Destruction
MEGA
One of Jason Momoa’s latest posts, and he’s been posting a variety of information about the Maui wildfires, from actual ground reports to what Maui residents need right now. His latest is a post by Instagram operator Kāko’o Haleakalā, a movement to preserve the original land, people and species of Hawaii.
Momoa’s latest post is of a woman talking on her phone, in emotional distress, as she takes a deep breath into the camera before talking about how “frustrated” she is with “investors and realtors” who are now contacting Lahaina residents who have had their homes burned down and offering to buy it from them.
He further urges everyone not to sell and send the names and numbers of these people so they can “blow up”.
The post has disturbed most social media users who seem to agree on one thing, “The rich are trying to get richer. Unfortunately they take tragedy and see it as a business opportunity. Some People Suck.”
Another compared it to the recent Australian bushfires, writing, “It’s not just greedy people, today [it’s] everyone. Everyone knows that a place that burns, if you invest in it or buy a house the value triples this is why people go to fire zone areas in Australia like Kangaroo Island. It tripled after three bushfires!!! in money VALUE $$$$”

80 People Have Died On Lahaina Alone

Like all of Hawaii, Lahaina was stunning before the widespread destruction. Like a honeypot, it attracts tourists in droves, which has put the environment on the brink and also disrupts the daily life of all residents. According to the New York Times, this is also driving real estate sky high, with the median home price being $1.7 million, putting home ownership out of reach for most residents. That said, many people live in properties that were bought in more affordable times, but these houses are now destroyed.
The fact that wildfires spread so easily on Maui and destroy both people and property gives people pause, as they wonder if this is real estate that was moved in the first place. There are fears that Lahaina will turn into another Waikiki, with most of the ethnicities being slowly destroyed by people out there to milk Hawaii for all the profit they can, without caring one bit about its roots.
Many people, Hawaiian or not are disgusted by the opportunists who seized the language, as one person wrote, addressing Governor Josh Green, “Governor Green ? Those who died yesterday had a plan for today… please stand with the people and don’t sell the land to the now floating Rich bubble for the next big bargain. the people will not recover from expensive houses and businesses and cannot afford to pay for their land.”
Another wrote, “Please don’t let Lahaina turn into Waikiki. All magic will disappear from that happening. Do not trust the government! Do not trust the company! Believe that we, even on the mainland, are raising money to help you keep your land and take back all that has been lost over the past generations.”

Jason Momoa Praised For Warning Tourists

DC’s Aquaman isn’t afraid to call a spade a spade. He also wrote on Instagram recently, “Maui is not a vacation spot right now. DO NOT TRAVEL TO MAUI.”
Shooting straight from the hip, Momoa told his fans and followers, “Don’t convince yourself that your presence is needed on an island suffering like this.” He finally softened his stance with gratitude, “Hello to everyone who has donated and shown love to the community in this time of need.”
More comments echoed the same, “Seriously if anyone booked a vacation to Hawaii and can get a refund, CANCEL YOUR TRIP! Donate the money you would have spent to an organization that works to help those who have lost everything. The cancellation also frees up space in hotels and resorts to provide shelters until homes can be rebuilt.”
