Television
Kanakia began his career in the comedy series ‘Shrimaan Shrimati’ (1994), where he played the role of Keshav Kulkarni, alongside actress Archana Puran Singh and Reema Lagoo.
The series was aired on Doordarshan and gained immense love from the viewers. In 1995, he played the role of ‘Ajay Tripathi’ in the serial Padosan. He did many serials with Zee TV including Hum Panch (1996), Mrs Madhuri Dixit (1997), Do Aur Do Panch (1998), And Chashme Baddoor (1999). He was last seen in the comedy series ‘Don’t Worry Ho Jayega’ (2000) as ‘Moti’ on Sahara TV.
Jatin Kanakia made his debut with Hindi film ‘Vishwavidhaata’ (1997) as Mr. Anand. Later in 1999, he worked in three back-to-back films, namely, ‘Khoobsurat,’ ‘Hum Saath Saath Hai,’ and ‘Trisakti.’

For his contributions to Indian television, Kanakia received a posthumous honor at the first Indian Telly Awards in 2001.
Death
On 18 July 1999, Jatin Kanakia, at the age of 47, took his last breath after he suffered from pancreatic cancer in Mumbai.
