Jean Currivan Trebek was born on Sunday, September 8, 1963 (age 57 years; in 2020), and he is from Greenlawn, New York. He grew up on the East Coast, Long Island, with his siblings. Jean’s brother, Chris Currivan, was born with Hydrocephalus, a medical condition in which extra fluid puts pressure on the brain, hence, he has developmental delays. During her childhood, Jean was a responsible child who took care of her older brother. In an interview, he said,
We went to school together, and I promised my parents that I would take care of her. Sometimes I would leave the classroom to check on him. I take care of my brother, and it feels like a gift instead of a burden. Other children may resent the responsibility. I think it’s a blessing. “
He attended Harborfields High School in Greenlawn, and later, he attended Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, California. Before moving to Los Angeles, he worked as a real estate project manager on Long Island. After completing her formal education, she pursued a part-time job as a bookkeeper, where she worked for fellow business executive Alex Trebek. In an interview, he said,
Alex is my boss’s friend. He would come every Saturday to play backgammon and have lunch. I knew that he was on some TV shows, but he never talked about it much and I didn’t ask.”
In 1988, they met at a party, which led to Alex inviting Jean to his house for dinner. In 1989, on Jean’s 26th birthday, Trebek gave her some pants and a jacket as a present, but then, he told her there was something else too. He pulled out a box and proposed with a 16 carat sapphire ring.
