A trove of court documents related to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein was released on Wednesday, January 3, after sitting sealed for years.
Dozens of names of the rich, famous and/or powerful — including royalty, politicians, billionaires and famous scientists — appear in the 40-document-deep trove.
The newly released documents are part of a larger batch of about 250 expected to be released in the coming days — naming more than 170 people who had ties to the multi-millionaire sex offender, including victims and former employees.
The remaining documents will likely become public record over the next week.
The names of people with ties to the disgraced financier, previously known only as “John Does” and “Jane Does,” are being revealed for the first time after a federal judge in December ordered the records opened.
Epstein committed suicide in a federal prison in Manhattan in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.
Former lawyer and friend Alan Dershowitz defended the former financier’s associate, saying: “None of us knew about his private life until he kept it secret.”
“You can judge them for showing poor judgment, but you can’t conclude that any accusation against them is true without hearing the evidence,” the one-time Harvard Law School professor said Tuesday before the document was dropped.
