Jennette McCurdy Considers Freezing Her Eggs Despite Not Wanting Kids

Jennette McCurdy knew that she did not want children, but also realized that she could change her mind later in life and wanted to be prepared for such a change.

The former Nickelodeon star and author of “I’m Glad My Mom Died” recently revealed the fact that she is considering freezing her eggs because she is “open to my mind changing.”

On the latest episode of the “Hard Feelings” podcast, McCurdy, 31, revealed that she is considering the option of freezing her eggs in case she changes her mind about children one day.

“I don’t feel in any way shape or form that I want children. I can’t imagine a world where one day I want children,” he said. “I’m also open to changing my mind.”

The actress went on to explain that she has changed so much throughout her life that she doesn’t want to wake up one day and regret not thinking she might change her mind about having children.

“I have changed a lot as an individual in my years so far and I hope to continue to change,” he said. “What I don’t want to happen is that I’m 40 years old and realize, ‘F—, I want kids now,’ and I don’t have enough eggs to make it happen.”

McCurdy went to an informational appointment to get details about the process and said she was “horrified” by what she learned.

“I heard my body would look and feel like I was pregnant,” she explained. “I would experience twenty times the difficulties and emotions, mood swings, and hormonal changes of a normal period.”

Although she said that she was not motivated to freeze her eggs because having children was not something she was thinking about right now, she was afraid of changing her mind later and did not take this step.

“I’m trying to bet on my future self wanting something that I can’t even imagine right now, as opposed to not doing it and betting that one day I might want it and not be able to do it then – and regret it,” she continued.

“I’m trying to weigh this option and it’s a bit complicated. I feel confronted with aging and who I am now versus who I will be someday and how much I don’t know about my future self. I was just faced with all these realities of life that, frankly, I didn’t feel ready to face – and I still don’t.”

The best-selling author’s podcast, “Hard Feelings,” from Lemonada Media, features her real, raw reflections on challenging emotions and themes. The podcast premiered on October 24 and was recorded in real time as he reflected on difficult emotions. And his relatable approach clearly worked because the podcast reached No. 1 on Apple Podcasts in its first week of airing.

“For example, I shot an episode a few days ago that I couldn’t have predicted the day before,” he told POPSUGAR. “I was like, ‘I feel something strong,’ and I grabbed my phone.”

Being able to get to a place where McCurdy was able to honor his emotions was a long journey and something that was very difficult for him to steer.

“Understanding my emotions is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I had a bad relationship with my emotions for a long time,” he said. “My tears will fall, and I will not be able to tell you what emotions are in their hearts. Could it be sad, angry, jealous, rate? I didn’t have the language or the tools to really understand my emotional experience.”

In addition to his podcast, and after all the success his first book, “I’m Glad My Mother Died” has brought him, he’s excited to write his first novel.
