Jennifer Lawrence Breaks Silence On Comments About Female-Led Action Movies

After facing a lot of backlash online, Jennifer Lawrence has spoken out about her previous comments on female-led action films. The actress starred in the first “Hunger Games” film in 2012 and has continued her role as Katniss Everdeen in three sequels.

In a previous interview, Lawrence talked about Hollywood’s poor treatment of female actors and looked back on her role in popular sci-fi. She claimed that she was the first female actress to play the lead role in an action film, a claim that was strongly disputed by the public.

After her comments, the actress received increasing criticism on social media, with fans citing many other women who had played leading roles long before her, such as Angelina Jolie and several others.

Lawrence recently spoke Hollywood Reporter to clear up misunderstandings surrounding his earlier comments about female-led action films. The actor said, “That’s definitely not what I wanted to say at all. I know that I’m not the only woman to ever lead an action movie.”

According to Lawrence, she just wanted to emphasize how much fun it was to play the role at the time. He also claims that another contributing factor to the mistake was talking to Viola Davis, who he says is a “living legend.” “What I want to emphasize is how good it tastes,” he said.

On December 7, the actor sat down with Davis in a Diversity Actors on Actors interview where he talks about his time filming “Hunger Games”. During the conversation, the “Silver Linings” actress talked about how women are treated unfairly in the film industry, pointing out the lack of women in leading roles in the action genre.

The comment that angered the internet was when Lawrence claimed that prior to her casting in the “Hunger Games” franchise, no one had been cast as a female lead in an action film.

She said, “I remember when I was making ‘Hunger Games,’ nobody ever put a woman in the lead of an action movie because it wouldn’t work… because we were told girls and boys could both identify with a male lead, but boys cannot identify with a female lead.”

In response, Lawrence said, “I want to come back to you as the lead of The Woman King. And we’re at; I think it’s 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes? Sixty-six million domestically. I mean, it’s just… It couldn’t be more wrong.”

The actor added that he feels “happy every time I see a movie come out that just blows away every belief and proves that it’s just a lie to keep certain people from watching movies.”
