Jerry Blavat, a famous DJ and musician, died on January 20 at the age of 82 from myasthenia gravis and other health problems. At the time of his death, he was a patient at Jefferson-Methodist Hospital. ABC’s 6pm Action News anchor Alicia Vitarelli paid tribute to Blavat with a photo collage, writing that she is a living legend. He is also a close friend of Blavat and stated:
“’The Geator with the Heater’ (‘The Boss with the Hot Sauce’) has been the voice of this city and beyond for decades. His ability has inspired many other musicians to become legends in their own way. Jerry’s infectious fun, lively and compassionate personality and friendship with everyone has been a beacon of light.”
He went on to say:
“It shines a light on all of us and improves us as a result. We learned to raise people and truly enjoy life through you, Jerry. International sensation. Philadelphia’s best cheerleader. An amazing find.”
Myasthenia gravis: Causes, Symptoms, and Prevention
Myasthenia gravis (MG) causes muscle weakness and fatigue that is not controlled by the patient. Disturbances in normal communication between nerves and muscles can result in MG. MG is more common in women under the age of 40 and men over the age of 60. Muscle weakness, droopy eyelids, double vision or diplopia, difficulty speaking, problems swallowing and chewing, and changes in facial expression are all common symptoms. Children are sometimes born with an unusual type of myasthenia gravis known as congenital myasthenic syndrome, according to experts. Myasthenic crisis, tumors of the thymus gland, underactive or overactive thyroid, and autoimmune diseases may all be caused by the disease. There is no permanent treatment for myasthenia gravis.

Jerry Blavat, born July 3, 1940, began his career in radio and presented many programs, including Bandstand. He is the owner of the Record Museum, a defunct record store. e became famous as the presenter of The Discophonic Scene. He later appeared in films and television series such as The Mod Squad, The Tonight Show, The Monkees, Desperately Seeking Susan, Baby It’s You, and Cookie.
Blavat also fell victim to a death hoax after canceling several planned activities. He denied the allegations on Facebook at the time and said on his website that he was battling a shoulder problem. Jerry Blavat’s friend Keely Stahl, four children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren survive him.
