Jesse Watters, an American broadcaster, was punished online for making offensive statements about immigrants. On the May 2 broadcast of Fox News’ roundtable discussion show The Five, the 44-year-old personality was joined by Dana Perino, Greg Gutfeld, Jessica Tarlov, and Jeanna Pirro in debating reports that Texas Governor Greg Abbott is transporting immigrants to New York and “black-run cities.”
On May 1, New York City Mayor Eric Adams stated that Abbott had recently abandoned plans to continue sending busloads of illegal immigrants turned asylum seekers to New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver and Washington, DC, only to resume the “morally bankrupt” program.
Jesse Watters said on his Fox show:
“The mayor here is complaining about a few thousand people, despite having more resources than any other city in the country?” That doesn’t make sense. Now, on my way to work, I see families of illegal immigrants looking through the trash for recyclables.”
Tarlov interrupted and asked:
“How do you know it’s illegal?”
Jesse replied:
“I can tell. I’m sure of it. I’m from the city, and you don’t want me involved, but I can tell.”
Jesse Watters’ words sparked outrage online, with many criticizing him for his callous statement.
Reaction on Twitter to Jesse Watters’ Statement on immigrants
Twitterati were outraged when Jesse Watters’ claim that he can recognize illegal immigrants because he’s a “city guy” went viral. Some labeled the presenter a racist and criticized him for his supposed intuition to determine who is and is not an immigrant. Others likened him to former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and called for Watters to be fired in a similar fashion.
Jesse Watters went on to state his stance on illegal immigration.
Jesse Watters continues to talk about illegal immigrants after making controversial remarks about The Five, calling it the “saddest thing” to watch because they can’t work in the country.
“They come to work, but they can’t work here.” And this is the point. You must be allowed to choose who comes to this country depending on their needs. If you need individuals like this, bring them in. But to say yes, come in, and oops, you know, and now everybody’s hunting for the five cent bottle. That’s not right. You can’t blame a guy from Texas for that.”
Watters is handing over power to Vice President Joe Biden, whose administration has seen an increase in border crossings.
“The common denominator in all of this is Joe Biden.” It’s the same as a bad boss who doesn’t do his job. Then everyone on the team starts pointing fingers and gossiping about other individuals. But if management just does their job, everyone will be able to stay in their lane. Texas can focus on Texas, while New York can focus on New York.
Watters’ comments came just days after Fox News allegedly fired Tucker Carlson after racist text messages were discovered during the Dominion investigation. According to the New York Times, Carlson appeared to say something in the text that was Fox’s last words, praising the crowd for beating suspected Antifa members.
“Obviously, jumping people like that is shameful. This is not the way white people fight.”
Jesse Watters has not responded to the internet’s reaction to his mixed statement as of the time of writing.
