American TV personality and interior designer Joanna Gaines revealed that she had to undergo back surgery before the holidays. The reality TV star has suffered from nagging back pain for years after being involved in a high school cheerleading accident.

Joanna Gaines Undergoes Decade-Old Back Injury Surgery

The Magnolia Network personality revealed that she had to undergo back surgery as a result of an accident decades ago.
Gaines takes to social media to share updates on her health with her fans. He can be seen in a hospital bed, covered in blankets, and showing a peace sign in an Instagram photo he posted.
“I hurt my back in high school from cheerleading- basically throwing a basket caused a back injury and I’ve dealt with it ever since,” Gaines captioned the photo.
She went on to say that she had her first microdiscectomy in 2001 and had to cancel her second date with Chip Carter Gaines, who is now her husband and fellow reality TV personality.
Microdiscectomy is a surgical procedure that helps manage pain in herniated discs in the spine.
The HGTV star also revealed that she had the same procedure on another disc a few weeks ago and joked about the fact that her back likes to act up at the most inconvenient times.

Gaines explained how her back issues made her anxious because it came at such a bad time, but despite that, she was still able to find positives in her situation.
He mentioned that the upcoming surgery at that time caused him concern because it was the holiday season and Christmas. However, he thanked the procedure for the “forced break” it gave him, calling it a “gift.”
“But I’m really grateful to be able to take a break at the busiest time of the year,” the reality star said as she gave fans a glimpse of her recovery at home.
He went on to add, “It’s a blessing to be still, to gaze at the wonders around, and just be still.”
He Wishes His Fans Happy Holidays

Despite the difficulties he experienced as a result of the surgery, The Magnolia Story the writer also took the time to wish his fans and followers a happy holiday.
“Have a wonderful Christmas week to you and yours. It may not all go as planned, but may you find beauty and embrace the magic here and now,” the message read in part.
Gaines is married to Chip, her co-star on their reality TV show “Fixed Upper: The Castle.” The couple celebrated their 19th anniversary in June.
They share five children: Drake, 17; Ella, 16; Duke, 14; Emma, 12; and Crew, 4.
