‘Joe Biden’ tells New Hampshire Dems not to vote in primary in deepfake controversy

EXETER, New Hampshire – Deepfakes have arrived at a major New Hampshire school.

Ahead of Tuesday’s vote, Granite State Democrats received a message from a voice purported to be President Biden warning them not to go to the polls.

“What a bunch of malarkey,” the recorded message from “Biden” began, according to NBC News, before telling the recipient to “save your vote for the November election.”

“Tuesday’s vote only allows Republicans in their quest to elect Donald Trump again. Your vote makes a difference in November, not this Tuesday,” the voice said, according to the outlet.

The call ended with a transfer to former New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairwoman Kathy Sullivan, who runs a super PAC dedicated to telling voters to write Biden’s name on Tuesday’s ballot.

Biden, 81, will not be listed as a favorite in New Hampshire because of a calendar conflict between state officials and the Democratic National Committee.

New Hampshire refused to comply with the DNC’s recommendation that South Carolina hold its first primary on February 3, since Granite State law mandates that its primary be at least seven days ahead of all other states.

Biden’s Write-in campaign has activated grassroots organizers to tell voters to fill in Biden’s own name in an effort to save the president from embarrassment Tuesday at the hands of rival Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) and Marianne Williamson.

“This is profound disinformation designed to harm Joe Biden, suppress the vote and damage our democracy. It was referred to law enforcement so they can determine who is responsible and bring them to justice,” Biden’s Write-In spokesman Aaron Jacobs said in a statement.

“We are confident that the voters of New Hampshire will respond by going to the polls and making it clear that we will not be intimidated by these dirty tricks. We remain focused on one goal until the polls close on Tuesday: encouraging Granite Staters to write in Joe Biden.”

Biden averaged 62.7% support in New Hampshire, per RealClearPolitics, while Phillips averaged 10.7%.

In 2020, Biden finished fifth in New Hampshire before kicking off his campaign with a landslide victory in South Carolina.

The Biden campaign, which had no connection to the write-in effort, also condemned the message.

“This matter has already been referred to the New Hampshire Attorney General, and the campaign is actively discussing additional actions to take immediately,” said Biden-Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez. “Spreading misinformation to suppress voting and deliberately undermine free and fair elections will not happen, and opposing any attempt to undermine our democracy will continue to be a priority for this campaign.”

The Phillips campaign said it had no additional knowledge of the call beyond what had been reported, with representatives saying “any effort to discourage voters is shameful and an unacceptable affront to democracy. The potential use of AI to manipulate voters is deeply disturbing.”

A representative for former President Donald Trump told The Post, “Not us, we had nothing to do with it,” when asked about the robocall.
