Biography of Joel Spolsky
Joel Spolsky was born in 1965 in New York City to Jewish parents. Joel grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and remained there until he was in his mid-teens. Joel later moved to Israel with his family, where he finished high school and served in the army with the Parachute Brigade.
Joel was one of the founders of Kibbutz Hanaton in the Lower Galilee and later returned to the United States to complete his education. Joel Spolsky attended the University of Pennsylvania for a year before transferring to Yale. Joel enrolled at Pierson College and graduated in 1991 with a BS summa cum laude in Computer Science.

After five years, Joel founded Fog Creek Software and created Joel on Software, one of the first blogs created by business owners.
