Actor John Boyega may join Daisy Ridley in his new “Star Wars” movie that takes place fifteen years after the events of 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.”

On The Hot Mic podcast, John Rocha claimed that “several different sources” told him that “John Boyega is coming back” for the new “Star Wars” movie, which features Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Jedi Rey.
The film will take place fifteen years after the events of “The Rise of Skywalker” and feature Rey rebuilding the new Jedi Order after the fall of the First Order. The film will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy from “Ms. Marvel” fame.

“Lost” creator Damon Lindelof and “The Strain” writer Justin Britt-Gibson were originally signed on to write the film; however, they parted ways with Lucasfilm just days after their script was submitted. Now, “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight will take over, though it’s unclear whether he’ll rewrite certain parts of the script or work from scratch.
Sources also told Rocha that John Boyega and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy had “buried the hatchet” regarding how Disney was marketing his character, which is why he decided to return to the franchise. However, it’s not clear if this is new information or just a reference to a previous conversation.

In an August 2022 interview with Vanity Fair, Boyega said that he was still a fan of the franchise. “People are always surprised! The industry issue has nothing to do with Star Wars and I’m a fan of it. I’ve watched Obi-Wan, I’ve watched The Mandalorian,” he said.
“I will forever be a fan of this franchise. As far as Finn? I’m good at that,” he added, saying that he would support his costars if they chose to return to the galaxy far, far away. As for Ridley, it looks like she’s ready to go back to Rey. As far as Boyega is concerned, however, he may not be ready yet.

I’m satisfied,” Boyega said in an August 2022 interview with SiriusXM’s Tell Me Everything With John Fugelsang when asked if he would play the character again. “I think Finn is at a good validation point where you can enjoy him in other things, games, animation. At the time of writing, there are no sequel trilogy characters but the character played by Daisy Ridley is confirmed to return in the new film, which is expected to hit theaters in December 2025.
